If you're raising a reader who loves magical mayhem and fantasy, Wizards Book 2 by Sybrina Durant might be just what you’re looking for. Aimed at kids ages 8–12, this middle-grade graphic-style book blends action, humor, and real science into an adventure that feels like a Saturday morning cartoon come to life.
One of my favorite parts is that it’s secretly educational. Sybrina Durant has done something really smart here. She’s woven actual science concepts into the fun of a children's book in a way that feels totally natural. Kids might not even notice they’re learning about things like energy, elements, and physics, but they’ll definitely walk away with a better understanding of how the world works (and probably with a few new spells up their sleeve, too). It’s a great pick for teachers, homeschoolers, or parents who want to get their kids more excited about STEM without pushing a textbook at them.
The illustrations keep things moving and pair perfectly with the story’s quick pace and quirky tone. There’s just enough visual detail to help kids stay engaged, without overwhelming younger readers who might be transitioning into chapter books.
Author Sybrina Durant is known for blending learning and laughter, and this book is a great example of that. She makes science approachable, magic entertaining, and characters easy to root for. If you’re a fan of series like The Last Kids on Earth or Amulet, your child will probably feel right at home with Wizards Book 2.
You can grab your copy of Wizards Book 2 on Amazon. (Pro tip: If your kid hasn’t read the first one yet, start there.)
If you're looking for a sneaky way to introduce some science into their reading routine, this one’s worth checking out!
